Workshops for Children
Whether it's a single workshop or a month long project, Kestrel is highly experienced at engaging, connecting with and inspiring children and teenagers in school and community settings. Their longer school projects have been extremely successful in improving student oracy and literacy skills, confidence, creativity and imagination, while shorter sessions are designed to get participants involved and creating stories as quickly as possible.
Testimonies
"My class really enjoyed it and I think their confidence really grew throughout the session." - Emma Dennise, Year 6 Teacher, Rydyprenau Primary School
“It was a captivating session for the children. Would definitely recommend Kestrel for children. You could see the kids’ minds come alive! 10/10 would book again “ - Samuel Thomas, Llantwit Librarian
“The children are extremely attentive during storytelling sessions. During these sessions the children are captivated, still and in awe. They are so attentive during these sessions that nearly all pupils are able to retell the story in detail... Pupils who are usually extremely shy and quiet, have grown in confidence. They are joining in more discussions, collaborating effectively with their peers and have performed during drama games. I believe that through the exploration of performing, the pupils creative writing skills have improved immensely. The games and stories have really stretched their imagination and allowed them to become adventurous in their writing of stories. The story telling has had a huge impact on the creative writing and the games have allowed the children to be better listeners and more confident speakers” - Julia Fitzgerald, Year 3 Teacher, St Marys RC Primary School Brynmawr
“It has been an absolute pleasure working with Kestrel. The pupils in Year 3 have been captivated by Kestrel's incredible storytelling skills and they have learnt so much from them. In particular, it has been wonderful to see Kestrel develop the pupils inner confidence and self belief and as a result, they have been able to perform confidently in front of an audience. Kestrel taught the pupils through a range of fun and engaging activities, leaving them excited to use their imagination to develop their own stories. As a result of this input, the quality of the pupils creative writing has developed hugely. I have never seen pupils so engaged in writing stories! Kestrel is greatly missed by my class already!” - Emily Harris, Year 3 Teacher, Pen-y-Fro Primary School
“The enquiry has clearly been a huge success and not only achieved amazing results for the yr 3 class and their oracy and writing skills but also had lasting impact on the class teacher and her creative teaching practice, whole school impact with all teachers and a left a legacy which looks to integrate some of your practice into the school for the future. Amazing!“ - Ellie Turner, LCS Creative Agent
“Kestrel's style of teaching keeps the kids engaged, embracing their energy and silliness and using it to inspire their imaginations and create amazing stories” Beth Wheelan, Roundhouse Homeschooling Group
